I started out with a simple idea–let people express themselves in a more immediate and permanent way when facing cremation.
It has taken an extraordinary amount of effort to make the concept a reality, but what a remarkable outcome. MemryStones touch far more lives than I had ever imagined.
I didn’t foresee that instead of one or two family members participating in the cremation, these ceramics would allow 7 or 8 or 10 or more survivors to express themselves in the face of grief, in the face of the common disconnection found at the heart of American-style cremation.
Just look at the photos below. Simple, heart-felt, full of meaning and love. A simple concept, and yet, a profound transformation of the experience of cremation for a growing number of survivors across the country.
MemryLane is an outreach of MemryStone, makers of ceramic markers which survivors inscribe with a message and send through the cremation process with someone who has died. The MemryStones return intact as a more personal form of identity confirmation and as a lasting touch-stone for memory.
